History

The CSI Vellore Chapter, established on 28th Feb’ 2005 (the National Science Day), has currently three affiliated students’ branches, many institutional members, about 200 life members and 1000 student members. Within a short span of time, the CSI Vellore Chapter became one of most vibrant CSI chapters. Since then several workshops, seminars and technical talks have been organized by the chapter – making it one of most vibrant chapters of CSI. Prof. H.R. Vishwakarma, Founder Chairman of CSI Vellore, served as the Chairman of the Chapter till March 2006. Subsequently, he was nominated as the 1st National Student Coordinator by the Executive Committee of CSI in April 2006. In the above capacity, he was instrumental in hosting several national and regional events for the students across India. During his tenure as the National Student Coordinator, the number of students’ branches rose from about 200 to more than 300.

Our Mission

The mission of this Student Chapter,VIT University is to facilitate research, knowledge sharing, learning and career enhancement for all categories of IT professionals, while simultaneously inspiring and nurturing new entrants into the industry and helping them to integrate into the IT community..

Structure

The Chapter consists of a Convener,Faculty Advisor and Two co-conveners. There are seven members in the Board assisted by – core committee members.
Members get the benefit of:

  • Discount on registration fee for all events conducted by CSI.
  • CSI regularily organises events and sessions in association of IBM,Mozilla Firefox,Microsoft and other leading computer companies.
  • Students get access to softwares and new releases during these workshops.
  • Students get a chance of interacting with renowned professors and Engineers in the process.

Structure

The "Computer Society of India" Student Chapter at VIT University is a professional body where computer professionals exchange views and information, share and encourage innovative ideas among the students. CSI is committed to the advancement of the theory and practice of Computer Engineering and Technology Systems, Science and Engineering, Information Processing and related Arts and Sciences.

Affiliations

The NUMBER 1 Student Chapter in India is dedicated in its efforts to provide inquisitive individuals with all the Technical expertise through interactive workshops and seminars! Computer Society Of India is

  • Representing the Indian community in the International Federation of Information Processing (IFIP) since 1974.
  • Representation in all the technical Committees and some of the working groups of IFIP. CSI has also organised IFIP sponsored events and conferences in India.
  • Has reciprocal membership agreement with the British Computer Society and the Australian Computer Society and the IEEE Computer Society.
  • Has been given the responsibility for selection of candidates in India for CICC Training Course in Japan.

The way ahead

Keeping in mind the interest of the IT professionals & computer users, CSI works towards, making the profession an area of choice amongst all sections of the society. The promotion of Information Technology as a profession is the top priority of CSI today. To fulfill this objective, the CSI regularly organizes conferences, conventions, lectures and gives various awards. And at the same time it also ensures that regular training and skill updating are organised for the IT professionals.

Financial Aid to Meritorious Students

The key to constant development is R&D. CSI hopes to contribute in this by supporting research and development activities in the areas of information technology. It constantly endeavors to provide publicity to projects of high relevance to the industry through its newsletter and listings at the website. The Society has been partially funding the visits of some of the IT professionals for presentation of paper in the University.
