The nearest airports are the Chennai airport about 130 km to the east of Vellore and the Bangalore airport about 205 km. to the west of Vellore.

Reaching Vellore from Chennai:
You can reach Vellore from Chennai either by train or by road.

BY TRAIN:
If you arrived at Chennai by air, you may take a taxi to the Central Railway Station, about 20 km. away. The taxi fare ranges from Rs.200 to Rs.250.

All west-bound trains from Chennai go via Katpadi Railway Station to several destinations such as Bangalore, Coimbatore, Trivandrum, etc. Travel time is approximately 2 ½ hours; make sure you buy your ticket to Katpadi which is the railway station that serves Vellore town.

After having alighted at Katpadi Railway Station, take an auto rickshaw to VIT campus, a 3 km. drive. Typical charges are Rs.30 to Rs.40.

BY ROAD:
If you wish, you may take a taxi directly to VIT, Vellore, from the Chennai airport. It could cost you Rs.2,000 to Rs.3,000 depending upon the type of car you hire. The distance is approximately 130 km; travel time is about 2 ½ hours.

Alternatively, you can go from the airport to the bus stand at Koyambedu either by taxi or auto rickshaw. The approximate distance is 15 km. Typically, the auto fare ranges form Rs.110 to Rs.150, while the taxis fare from Rs.200 to Rs.250.

Several state-owned buses operate from Koyambedu Bus Stand, Chennai, to Vellore (new) bus stand from 04:00 am to 10:30 pm. Travel time is approximately 3 hours.

After having arrived at the new bus stand in Vellore, take an auto rickshaw to VIT campus, a 7 km drive. Charges vary from Rs.60 to Rs.80.
