History
of computing discipline at VIT
University dates back to
1993 when the Department of Computer Science & Engineering was established
to meet the demand for well-qualified computer professionals. Subsequently,
the Departments of Computer Applications and Information Technology were
established.
The School of Computing Sciences was conceived during
the year 2004-05 and came into existence by consolidating achievements and
core strengths of the aforesaid departments. The prime motto was to unify
the faculty, laboratory, computing and other resources from erstwhile three
independent departments and also to follow the School-based higher technical
education system prevailing internationally. Since its inception, it
continues to be the biggest school of VIT University with the current
strength of more than 4500 students and 165 core faculty members apart from
many visiting professors, distinguished professionals from industry, eminent
researchers and teaching/research assistants.
